SMITH COUNTY, Kansas (CNN) - Video captures a glimpse inside a tornado after storm chasers in Smith County, Kan., ended up wedged inside one.
They were inside a specialized tank-like machine called a "Tornado Intercept Vehicle."
They say wind speeds were up to 170 mph -- strong enough to blow open a hatch and a door, and rip instruments off the roof. Luckily, it stayed on the ground.
The National Weather Service received reports of 16 possible tornadoes in Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado on Monday.
